Military

Colonel Jacob Lansing Jr. was a revolutionary officer and commanded a regiment at Stillwater in the Burgoyne campaign, and as captain was in the fort at Scholarie, New York, when attacked by Sir John Johnson and Indians under Brandt.

Whereas, at a meeting of committees of the several Districts in the county of Albany, held in the city of Albany on the 10th of May, 1775, the following persons,

were appointed to Represent the said city and county in Provincial Congress on the Twenty Second day of May instant, in the city of New York, with such Deputies as are or may be appointed from the other counties in this colony to consult of, Determine on, and transact all such matters as shall be then and there agitated for the good of the colony in general, and this county in particular. screen themselves from the rod of Correction and at the same time mean to claim merit with a British Administration for their adherence to their allegiance, Justly alarmed at the Conduct of that District your petitioners at the earnest and repeated request of a Number of the well affected Inhabitants of Kinderhook District Conceive it their indispensible Duty to Lay before the Convention this representation, And that the COnvention of this State will be pleased to remove those officers; Namely Andris Witbeck, Col Barent Vanderpool, Lieut Col Lawrence Goes, 1st Major, Isaac Vanderpool Adjutant, & John D. Goes Quarter Master from the Command of that Battalion and that they will be pleased to appoint Abraham P. Van Alstyn, Col Philip Van Alastyn, Lieut Col Isaac Goes 1st Major, John M. Van Alstyn Adjutant, & Tobias D. Van Buren Qr Master in their stead, persons whose principles are well known for their attachment to the Libertys of this Country, adn by whose influence and authority in those appointments the Battalion in that District may render their Country Essential Services, and your petitioners as in duty bound shall ever pray,

Page 210.--In the name of God, Amen. I, JACOB VISHER, of Albany, being of sound mind. All debts to be paid. I leave to Gertrude Swits, daughter of Major Isaac Swits, the house and lot where I now live, "and she is to keep and maintain my negro wench, 'Deijaen,' with food and clothing, and allow her to store her clothing in the garret during her life, and to live in the back kitchen and sleep in the cellar." I leave to Gerritt Van Vrankie, carpenter, of Albany, ś100. Of all the rest of my real and personal estate I leave 1/3 to the heirs of my sister, Hester Swits, viz., Isaac, Susanah, wife of Cornelius Van Ness, and Anna, wife of Hendrick Beekman; 1/6 to the children of Egbert B. Egbertse; 1/6 to Polly, wife of Jacob J. Lansing, and 1/3 to Gertrude, wife of Martin Beekman. My negro man and woman are to be free, and my executors are to give security that they shall not be a burden upon any town, according to Act passed October 29, 1730. I make Isaac Swits, Jacob J. Lansing, and John Beekman executors, and I give to each of them ś50 for their trouble. Dated November 10, 1762.
