Losings
By Sandy Doone
Daily Illini, 17 Jan 1926

I've often wondered, does it ever seem
That things turn out as you would have them be?
They say, in every game, that someone wins,
But that one never happens to be me.

But once I thought that I would surely win
And come away with victory on my side;
The usual thing; it seems the cards were stacked,
I couldn't win however hard I tried.

I searched in vain to find some other game
But interest for me was in just one;
The game I played so very long ago
And lost, when I believed that I had won.

         Sandy Doone.
