To an Unknown Girl
By TVD
Daily Illini, 18 Dec 1925

Girl who I've known forever,
Girl who I've loved in my dreams,
Girl who I've felt in the silence;
And heard in the running streams -

Hear you the song of the drifter,
Hear you the love that he sings,
Hear you the tale of the open road;
And the wonder of little things -

Turn not away from the singer,
Turn not away from his song,
Turn not away for the evening -
Is chill and the road has been long.

Take you the heart of the drifter,
Take you his strength and his skill -
Take you his youth and his longing;
Take them and crush them and kill!
