In 1738 he was appointed by his father, then governor, a member of the New Jersey council,
and later became chief justice of the state. He served as governor of Pennsylvania
from October 3, 1754, to August 20, 1756, meantime retaining his commission as chief
justice of New Jersey, in which latter position he continued until his death.
He was unmarried.

Hon. Robert Hunter Morris was born at Trenton, New Jersey, about 1700, died at Shrewsbury,
New Jersey, January 27, 1764. He inherited his father's lands in New Jersey, and his
career was identified with that province and with Pennsylvania.
