TRIBUTES ... In Nov. of 1945 the Chamber of Commerce appointed a committee of one - N'Yawk News staffer Bill BERRY - to arrange a ski-meet for Reno. Bill had a 20-year dream to do just that (having
tracked and publicized the mountains that long) and he got together with Warren HART.
Hart chose Slide Mt. for the site. Now, Berry, last of a triumvirate of Newsfolks which included the loved-but-often-cussed Jack BELL and Lola BELL, had a
dream of making Reno a bigtime all-year-round tourist spot ... often, they used "sensational" stuff, and a lot of people didn't like it. But the point is, it got outsiders
and the curious to SEE Reno, and the resort industry boomed. Now, Slide Mt., aptly dubbed "RENO BOWL," looks like it'll be bigger than Sun Valley in a few years ... And
when it happens the town will prosper 12-months of every year.
