State Civil Service Criticised By Losers
Denver Post, Dec 20, 1914, Page 31

Four witnesses yesterday made complaint of the state civil service commission at their inquiry held in the state house by a committee of the Civil Service Reform league. The inquiry was continued to next Saturday at 2 p. m. when other complainants will be invited to present their views to the committee and the commission will make its defense.

All the witnesses objected to the manner in which the commission grades experience, some saying that too much and others that too little was required.

J. J. Ryan, beaten in the examination for secretary of the state wage board by Mrs. Catharine B. Van Deusen, declared that ability to write a thesis showed enough experience.

The other three complainants were men who had taken the examination for state boiler inspector or his deputy. They were W. A. Bottoroff, William B. Peck and Byron C. Higggins.
