The plan was for Montgomery's army to go up the Hudson River, then overland to Lake George, boat again north to Ft. St. John, and then overland to Montreal. The last stage would be to take Quebec after meeting up with General Benedict Arnold's troops, who were moving north through Maine.

During this expedition, Henry kept a journal. The book reads less about the military life, and more about the sights that he saw along the way.
