Jane must have come from stronger genes than Catharine, because her family had grown and thrived. When Henry lost his oldest son Henry Welles, he had a family of eight children to fall back on for comfort. His youngest, named for the older half-sister Catharine who had died the year before the younger Catharine's birth, was especially loved, so when she, too, died a year after Henry Welles, Henry was inconsolable. After her death, it was said that Henry would get up and leave the room whenever her name was mentioned.
