Henry Sr. must have been very pleased with Henry Jr.'s commitment to the Dutch Reformed Church, being himself a Church Elder in 1753. A grandson of Henry, Melancthon Taylor Woolsey, wrote about his mother, "His mother was a lady of the well-known family of Livingston, and a daughter of a divine of some eminence." This must have been the reason Henry Sr. was often described as Dr. Henry Livingston.
