W. Thorne (x-x)
Pupil of:
| South Kensington Museum School of Art |
The subject of "A Song Without Words" explains itself. A young girl in an idle mood plays
upon a zither the dreamy music whose spell has enchanted half the world. The artist,
W. Thorne, is English, a native of London and pupil of the South Kensington Museum School of Art.
[OK, I'm stuck again. The only Thorne I found with a W in front of his surname was
William Thorne. The problem with that identification is William Thorne is identified as American. That
I could live with, since country origin ids seem so flakey. It's that William Thorne is born in 1864, which
would make him 37 at the time of Vicar's book, and a trifle old to be a student. Also, W. Thorne is
identified as studying in London, and William Thorne in Paris. The only thing that makes me wince to throw away
this connection is that William Thorne is identified as having painted a portrait of a violinist in 1904, which
certainly comports with the subject of W. Thorne's painting. Help!]
