Luigi Mion (c.1850-c.1920)
[L. Mion]
Luigi Mion, a rising young French artist, typifies "Early Morning" as a maiden in gauzy white robe and drapery, suggestive of the early mist, who smiles joyously out of a rich midsummer landscape, with the fields dotted with daisies.
[Notes from Worthington Collection:]
THE VENETIAN GIRL........................Luigi Mion, (Italian) Venice.
Genre and figure painter. His works include "The Butterfly," "Collection
for the Mass," "Venetian Lady Masked," "Blind Man's Buff," and
many others. His drawing is true and spirited, and his selections well
characterized. This picutre shows a girl returning from market with a
bundle of fagots and a basket of vegetables. It is strongly drawn and
painted.
[Note the identification conflict. The catalog and ArtNet say he's Italian,
and the one date to be found says he's born about 1850. Vicars, on the other hand, talks about
a French artist who is young in 1901.]
