One steps from the harem to the home in the picture by E. Tobias, "The Little Housekeeper," a naive and attractive episode of child life, all the more delightful for the pleasant simplicity with which it is represented.

[Although Vicars identifies this artist as E. Tobias in his text, the index gives the correct initial, as verified by the signature on the painting. There is one other painting identified as being by A. Tobias that I find, but the image is very small. Magnifying it through Photoshop and playing with the contrast, it seems that the signatures do match, and that the dates are reasonably close. But I still don't know if this is the same artist as the German Adele Tobias. Help is always gratefully accepted.]
