Scalloped Potatoes with Onions

5mediumpotatoes, peeled and sliced
1/4mediumonion, peeled and sliced
3tablespoonsbutter
1teaspoonsalt
1/4teaspoonpepper
1/4cupmilk
2tablespoonshot water

Melt 1 tablespoon of the butter in large skillet. Sprinkle potatoes and onions with salt and pepper, and dot with butter. Combine milk and hot water and pour over all.

Cover, heat to boiling, then reduce to simmer and cook until potatoes are tender, about 30 minutes.
