Lyn's Grandma's Ginger Cookies


1cupsugar
1cupmolasses
1cupshortening
3.eggs
1tablespoonbaking soda
5cupsflour
1teaspoonsalt
1tablespooncinnamon
2tablespoonsginger
1boxraisins

Dissolve baking soda in 1 cup boiling water. Sift flour. Measure and resift with spices and salt.

Cream shortening. Add sugar gradually and cream well. Add well-beaten eggs. Add molasses, blending well. Add dry ingredients, alternately with baking soda and cooled water. Add raisins, breaking them up so as not to form lumps.

Drop by tablespoons on greased cookie sheets with lots of space between. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes.

Makes about 6 dozen.
