BACKGROUND
FEVERSHAM, Martin Maden

Now begin the heav'nly theme,
Sing aloud in Jesu's name,
Sing aloud in Jesu's name
Ye who Jesu's kindness prove,
Triumph in redeeming love,
Triumph in redeeming love.

HEXHAM

Come to Jesus, come away,
Heard I not the spirit say?
Come and all the sweetness prove,
Of the holy Ghost and love:
Come and dwell forever more,
All in raptures burn, adore.

SINAI

O the immense th' amazing height!
The boundless grandeur of a God!
Who treads ye world beneath his feet!
And sways the nations with his word!
He speaks, and lo all nature shapes
Heav'ns everlasting pillars bow.
He rends the clouds with hedious creaks,
And shoots his fiery arrows thro!

NEW EAGLE STREET, Dr. Watts

Great is the Lord our God,
And let his name be great;
He makes his churches his abode,
His most delightful seat.

ST. THOMAS (1719), Dr. Watts

My God, permit my tongue,
This Joy to call thee mine;
And let my early cries prevail,
To taste thy love divine.

FEVERSHAM
By Martin Maden
Music could be by Ignaz J. Pleyel (1791)

Now begin the heav'nly theme,
Sing aloud in Jesu's Name;
Ye, who His salvation prove,
Triumph in redeeming love.

Ye, who see the Father’s grace
Beaming in the Savior’s face,
As to Canaan on ye move,
Praise and bless redeeming love.

Mourning souls, dry up your tears,
Banish all your guilty fears,
See your guilt and curse remove,
Canceled by redeeming love.

Ye, alas! who long have been
Willing slaves to death and sin,
Now from bliss no longer rove,
Stop and taste redeeming love.

Welcome all by sin oppressed,
Welcome to His sacred rest;
Nothing brought Him from above,
Nothing but redeeming love.

When His Spirit leads us home,
When we to His glory come,
We shall all the fullness prove,
Of our Lord’s redeeming love.

Hither then your music bring,
Strike aloud each cheerful string;
Mortals join the host above,
Join to praise redeeming love.

NEW EAGLE STREET
PSALM 48
By Dr. Isaac Watts (1674-1748)

Great is the Lord our God,
And let his praise be great;
He makes his churches his abode,
His most delightful seat.

These temples of his grace,
How beautiful they stand!
The honors of our native place,
And bulwarks of our land.

In Zion God is known,
A refuge in distress;
How bright has his salvation shone
Through all her palaces!

When kings against her joined,
And saw the Lord was there,
In wild confusion of the mind
They fled with hasty fear.

When navies tall and proud
Attempt to spoil our peace,
He sends his tempests roaring loud,
And sinks them in the seas.

Oft have our fathers told,
Our eyes have often seen,
How well our God secures the fold
Where his own sheep have been.

In every new distress
We'll to his house repair;
We'll think upon his wondrous grace,
And seek deliv'rance there.

ST. THOMAS
By Dr. Isaac Watts (1674-1748)

My God, permit my tongue
This joy, to call Thee mine;
And let my early cries prevail
To taste Thy love divine.

My thirsty, fainting soul
Thy mercy doth implore;
Not travelers in desert lands
Can pant for water more.

Within Thy churches, Lord,
I long to find my place;
Thy power and glory to behold,
And feel Thy quick’ning grace.

For life without Thy love
No relish can afford;
No joy can be compared to this,
To serve and please the Lord.

To Thee I’ll lift my hands,
And praise Thee while I live;
Not the rich dainties of a feast
Such food or pleasure give.

In wakeful hours at night
I call my God to mind;
I think how wise Thy counsels are,
And all Thy dealings kind.

Since thou hast been my help,
To Thee my spirit flies,
And on Thy watchful providence
My cheerful hope relies.

The shadow of Thy wings
My soul in safety keeps;
I follow where my Father leads,
And He supports my steps.
