Reproduction of Old Time Frontier Sought By Producers
Arrangements have been completed by the Cedar Valley Fair association for a western competitive tournament June 13-155.
Various phases of western ranch life will be depicted in the three days and entertainment and contests of skill will be held.
No entries are barred in any class of sport and no partiality will be shown in the award of prizes. A total of
$3,000 will be distributed in cash prizes to the winners, and a number of trophies and honors will be award to those whose
whose abilities deserve them.
Sixty head of wild horses will be shipped from a ranch at Cheyenne, Wyo, to be used by the contestants
in bronco busting. These animals have never been haltered or bridled and are fresh from the range. The complete outfit of the ranch of
Colonel Zach Mulhall of Mulhall, Okla., has been assured the promoters of the exhibition, and with a carload of Western steers
will assure a real western atmosphere.
In addition to the broncos, wild steers and bucking horses which will be necessary to stage the event, there will be present
more than 100 cowboys and girls to participate in the trials of skill and daring. Among these will be Miss Lucille Mulhall,
world's champion cow girl, and Edward McCarty of Cheyenne, cowboy champion.
The association hopes to present a literal reproduction of the old time frontier of story and tradition, which by contrast will
afford illustration of the great progress made in development of resources and opportunity in that part of the country.
Besides the ranch exhibits there will be numerous exhibits from western states which desire official representation.
The celebration will be in the afternoon and evening of the days chosen on the fair grounds between Waterloo and
Cedar Falls, and no restrictions are placed on entries. There will be no hired performers, nor expenses guaranteed and none of the stunts will be
rehearsed on the grounds. It is the intention of the promoters to make the contest bona fide and open to everyone.
