ONE IS INJURED IN AUTO CRASH
Drivers of Lincoln Sedan Are Held for
Driving Car While Being Intoxicated

Perry Journal, 1 Jul 1926

Three were in the county Jail Monday and a fourth was under a doctor's care following an automobile crash three miles east of Perry on the Morrison road at 10 o'clock Sunday night in which a Lincoln sedan was completely demolished and a Wichita five-ton truck badly damaged.

Jess Martin, the injured member, received several cuts and bruised about his face and body and was given treatment by Dr. D. F. Coldiron.

Charges Filed
Those in jail were Horton Homerathy, charged with driving a car while intoxicated; Margaret Mulhall, held on the saem charge; and Joe Butler charged with being intoxicated in a public place. A charge of being intoxicated while in a public place has been filed against Martin.

The accident occured when the Lincoln sedan, driven by Margaret Mulhall and owned by Homerathy, ploughed into a truck driven by S. S. Jamison. Jamison was going east on his way to Morrison while the Lincoln was coming from the east.

The crash broke the left front wheel of the Lincoln as well as damaged the body in several places. The front part of the truck was demolished.

Saw Lincoln Coming
Jamison stated thta he was on the right side of the road when he saw the Lincoln about 300 yards away on the right hand side of the road. He edged over as far as he could while climbing the grade and declares that he could not have been going over six or seven miles an hour at the time of the crash. However the Lincoln as it approached him, he stated, remained on the right side of the road and was coming at a high rate of speed and no attempt to put the car on the left side of the road was made before the crash.

The Lincoln almost struck the truck head on and after the crash instead of turning over settled back down it was told. Butler, who was riding in the back seat of the car was thrown out and Martin was injured. The Mulhall woman, who was driving the car, and Homerathy, who was sitting beside her, both escaped with slight injuries.

Escape Injury
George Carrier, who was accompanying Jamison in the truck, and Jamison, both escaped injury.

County officers were called to the scene of the accident and the four occupants were brought into Perry after they had been refused aid by passing tourists on account of their profanity, it was declared.

Martin was taken to Doctor Coldiron's office and given medical attention and then put to bed. The other three were placed in the county jail. Nearly a gallon of alleged whiskey was found in the Lincoln.

The charges were filed early Monday morning by Joe Howard, county attorney.
