Lucille Mulhall Wants "Necktie" As Roping Mount
Muskogee Times-Democrat, 30 Apr 1915

Miss Lucille Mulhall who is connected with the Oklahoma Ranch show at the fair grounds this week, is negotiating with "Blue" Gentry of Council Hill, for the purchase of the horse "Necktie," the most famous roping horse in the southwest, now owned by Gentry. Miss Mulhall and Gentry are two of the most prominent figures in the wild west show at the fair grounds, the former as a trick and fancy roper and the latter as an entrant in the roping contest.

"Blue" Gentry says the horse could not be bought for less than a thousand dollars and that it is improbably that he will sell the animal at all. "Blue" has owned "Necktie" for seven years and paid a thousand dollars for the horse himself. "Necktie" is known all over the country for his speed and agility in following cattle.

"Necktie" was bred on the ranch of Tony Trescott at Maud, Okla., and was obtained by W. W. Kale, of Fairfax, Okla., in a trade. Gentry bought the horse of Kale at the age of four, paying a thousand dollars, and training the animal himself. Necktie, now eleven years old, is in his prime and Lucille Mulhall wishes to obtain him to use in her roping exhibitions.

It is a wellknown fact that the time made for roping and tying a steer depends a great deal upon the speed and knowledge of the horse. The possession of this required speed and knowledge of the game is what makes "Necktie" so valuable.

"Blue" Gentry has roped from "Necktie" in roping contests in Canada, New Mexico, Old Mexico and in numerous towns in Oklahaoma, and in every contest Gentry, if he has not been award first place, has "landed in the money." He is called the "Fastest left-handed roper in the world."
