GIRL CAPTURES A WOLF
Lassoes the Brute, then Kills It with Her Heavy Boot Spur

The Athens Messenger and Herald, 29 Nov 1900

Miss Agnes ("Bossie") Mulhall, daughter of Col. Zach Mulhall, cattle king of Oklahoma and general live stock agent of the 'Frisco railroad, lassoed and killed a big gray wolf on her father's ranch. She had the animal mounted and stuffed and shipped it to Gov. Theodore Roosevelt.

Miss Mulhall is 19 years old, a fearless horsewoman and an expert with lariat and rifle. She is the original from whom was patterned the character of Bossie Brander in Hoyt's "A Texas Steer."

Miss Mulhall and her sister while out riding on their cow ponies one day ran across the wolf. They chased the animal three miles, when Miss Bossie lassoed him and dragged him back to the hosue. The wolf broke, but she lassoed him again and tehn killed the brute with her heavy book spur.

When Gov. Roosevelt was in Oklahoma City recently he heard the story and asked Miss Mulhall for the wolf. Miss Mulhall replied that there were enough wolves in politics.

Later she relented and has shipped the mounted wolf from St. Louis to New York.
