SHE ROPED A STEER
Miss Mulhall Gave Clever Exhibition at Wichita

Wellington Daily News, 14 Feb 1902

Miss Lucille Mulhall roped and tied a big, wild, long horned Texas steer at the roping contest held yesterday afternoon under the auspices of the Cattlemen's convention at Wichita. She was mounted on a little, wiry pony and rode a man's saddle and astride. She started out like the others and her first throw caught only one horn. She gathered up her rope and started again. The rope was wet and she had some trouble in getting the coil to work right. She brought the steer almost in front of the grand stand before she made her next throw and this time caught him over one horn and under the jaw.

One twist of the rope under the steer's leg and a jerk by the pony threw him and Miss Mulhall tied his fore and hind legs together. She made the tie in two minutes and twenty seconds, winning the fourth prize. The other prizes weere won as follows:

Jesse Cup, of HIgging, Texas, first money, $100, time 1:33; Buck Walsh, Woodward, second, $50, time 1:36; Jas. Seidman, Alva, third $25, time 1:39; Miss Mulhall, fourth, Stetson hat, time 2:20.
