STEER TOSSES LUCILLE MULHALL
AND HER PONY

The Chillicothe Tribune, 26 Aug 1909

Holden, Mo., Aug.-
Lucille Mulhall, whose Wild West congress is the leading attraction of the Holden Fair, had a thrilling experience today at the Fair Grounds. The company is using longhorns direct from Mexico, which become furious at the least interference.

Dick Thompson, a member of the company, had just had a narrow escape from being gored by a steer he had attempted to ride and his work with the animal had put it in a very savage mood. Thompson finally rode the steer and it was while roping him to let Thompson off that Lucille brought occupants of the grand stand to their feet with blanched faces.

She and her brother Charlie were roping, one from each side, to bring the steer to a standstill when in some way she allowed her horse to get too near the infuriated steer. With his tongue out and bellowing with rage, it made a vicious lunge at Lucille, catching her pony and raising both horse and rider from the ground.

The quick work of Charlie threw the steer to the ground.
