LUCILLE MULHALL IS DIVORCE DEFENDANT
Husband of Wild West show Actress
Files Petition in Court at Olathe, Kas.

The Chanute Daily Tribune, 30 Mar 1914

Olathe, Kas., March 30.-
W. D. Morrison, attorney for Martin Van Bergen, a vaudeville singer, has filed a suit here in which Van Bergen asks a divorce from Lucille A. Van Bergen. Mrs. Van Bergen formerly was Lucille A. Mulhall. She is the daughter of Colonel Zach Mulhall of Oklahoma, of Wild West show fame. Van Bergen and his wife formerly traveled together in vaudeville. They have been estranged about six months. He charges immorality.

In his petition Van Bergen states that he is a resident of De Soto, Ks., ten miles northeast of Olathe and that he and Miss Mulhall were married in Brookly, N. Y., September 17, 1907. He says they lived together happily until August, 1913. One child was born to them - William Logan Van Bergen, now 5 years old.

Since last August, Van Bergen alleged, his wife has refused to live with him and has been traveling with a Wild West show. He charges that Mrs. Van Bergen has not properly cared for their child and alleges that she has refused to see him.

Van Bergen relates in his petition how he went to Reno, Nev., on Aug. 27, last, to induce his wife to return to him. The Wild West show with which she is traveling, he says, was showing there at that time. The husband charges that his wife concealed herself from him on that occasion and that when he followed the show to the next town he was arrested. He alleges tht the affections of his wife appear to have been transferred to another man whom he names in his petition.

Van Bergen asks for the care and custody of his child. Since the separation Van Bergen has been appearing in vaudeville with another singer. His father, who resides at De Soto, is a conductor on the Santa Fe railroad.
