Bradley Evans Bell changed his name to Bradley TenEyck Van Deusen in 1934. He was usually called Brad, Van, or Tiger.
Cap was a close friend of Bradley's, and it was Cap who wrote to Bradley telling him of the suicide
of Bob Robinson,
one of Brad's closest friends, and one of the two men to whom this book of poetry was dedicated.
These men were closely knit by the military life, in which they saw themselves as warriors in an intellectual and
romantic line of fighting men marching to the present out of an ancient and honorable history.
